How does Search Live operate, and what is it?

A conversational AI mode search feature called Search Live is being introduced to the Google app. Accessible through the Google app, this function enables users to speak with Search by voice rather than typing inquiries. Those who are currently engaged in the AI Mode experiment in Labs can use this functionality. On iOS or Android, users may use Search Live by opening the Google app and clicking on the new “Live” button beneath the search bar to initiate chats.

Currently, it’s available for US users testing out Google’s AI Mode.

Google recently unveiled AI mode for Search, which gives consumers sophisticated and convenient search options. Google has now revealed “Search Live” under AI mode, which enables users to ask voice-based questions, much to ChatGPT voice mode and Gemini Live. Voice-based AI search allows users to converse back-to-back in order to obtain the information they need. Though both AI-based voice models provide distinct features and services, Search Live and Gemini Live are comparable. According to Google, Search Live can also operate in the background. As a result, users can go on exchanging messages while using another app. This simplifies and eases Google search and multitasking. A “transcript” button is also included in Search Live to turn the audio responses into text. According to reports, the function uses a customized version of Gemini that has sophisticated voice skills to provide precise information. Furthermore, the AI Mode history provides access to all previous voice-based requests, enabling users to review particular answers.

Notably, the feature is being tested before it rolls out globally. As of now, it is only available in the US, and we expect a stable release soon. These upcoming Google Search features could give tough competition to AI chatbots, including OpenAI’s Search GPT, which recently started to trend.
