In stoppage time of the match, the game turned on a penalty kick awarded to City after Alisson fouled Matheus Nunes, and Haaland converted the penalty into a goal with only three minutes to play.

Things intensified in the match as there was a VAR decision to take away a goal from City near the end of the game, and Szoboszlai was issued a red card late in the match. The win kept the title hopes of City alive and brought them closer to the top of the table.
