Tata Motors Revives an Icon
Automotive fans across India finally have a reason to celebrate. On June 30, Tata Motors officially resurrected a legendary moniker by launching the much-awaited Sierra EV. Fusing classic nostalgia with state-of-the-art electric mobility, this new premium midsize SUV is ready to shake up the Indian auto industry.
A Nostalgic Yet Futuristic Exterior While it pays homage to the original 1990s model—most notably by retaining that famous curved Alpine-style rear window—the Sierra EV is a thoroughly modern machine. The exterior styling boasts a clean, aerodynamic silhouette featuring a closed-off front grille, striking end-to-end LED light bars, flush door handles, and sporty 19-inch aero-optimized alloy wheels.
A Tech-Loaded Cabin Stepping inside, buyers are greeted by a futuristic and luxurious environment. A major highlight is the segment-leading “Horizon View” triple-display dashboard, which even includes a dedicated screen for the co-passenger. Further enhancing the premium feel are a massive panoramic sunroof, an immersive 12-speaker JBL Dolby Atmos sound system, and a comprehensive Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite to ensure maximum safety.
Battery Sizes and Range Underneath the sleek bodywork, Tata provides both Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) choices. Customers are having two choice between two power sources: a standard 63 kWh battery pack and a larger 75 kWh unit. Equipped with the higher-capacity 75 kWh battery, the SUV promises a stellar MIDC-certified driving range of up to 665 kilometers per charge.
Speed and Charging Capabilities For thrill-seekers, the Sierra EV packs a punch. Utilizing a dedicated Boost Mode in the AWD variant, the vehicle unleashes 504 Nm of torque, rocketing from zero to 100 km/h in a mere 5.8 seconds. Ultra-fast charging capabilities are also on board; when plugged into a 120kW DC fast charger, the vehicle can regain roughly 263 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes.
Market Positioning Entering the market with an aggressive introductory starting price of ₹18.79 Lakh, this new electric SUV perfectly bridges the gap between Tata’s Curvv EV and Harrier EV. By adding the Sierra to a successful stable that already includes the Nexon EV, Punch EV, and Tiago EV, Tata Motors continues to solidify its commanding lead in India’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle sector.
